This year, the Lakehead Orillia Men’s Extramural Basketball team participated in a Men’s Basketball League in Barrie before their upcoming tournament season in the new year. The league consisted of 14 teams, including Lakehead, and presented the team with a new challenge. The Thunderwolves played a total of 10 games; winning 6 and losing only 4. Their first ever win, which was also their first game of the season, was against the Grizzlies, a team who was known as tough to beat due to their years of experience playing together. Although most games started off rough, the Thunderwolves were able to pull ahead by the end of the game just about every time - twice in overtime.

The success in the league was the result of teamwork as well as great 3-point shooting from Peter Scholtes, Jake Clendinning, Jackson Fournier, and Kurtis Page, big plays by Connor Garrison and Samson Kennedy, and amazing contributions from Brett Tomlinson, Noah Solomon, and Dan Kersnik. Not to mention honourary players Rebecca Alize-Minty and Gia Spiropoulos from the Lakehead Orillia Women’s Extramural Basketball Team who filled in when the team was short players. Throughout their time in the league and team workouts on Thursday nights, the Thunderwolves have created a strong bond, which in turn has created an even stronger team. Good luck on your upcoming tournament season Thunderwolves, we know you’ll do great!
