Winter Eats in the Bay

Christmas is just around the corner, the snow is bearing down on us, festival lights are up, and spirits are high. That also means the end of the treacherous exam season and time for winter break!

During winter break, both cafeterias at the university will be closed. They are set to be reopened on the 7th of January for brunch. Meanwhile, students who have decided to stay back in residence for the holidays will have to find an alternative way to keep their stomachs full.

This break, for students looking to go out and enjoy a meal that isn’t necessarily a greasy burger and fries, Thunder Bay is home to multiple restaurants that serve amazing food. 5 Forks is a 15-minute walk from Lakehead University and offers some of the best food in Thunder Bay. The Bang Bang shrimp and The Social platter are must-haves! Older students can also visit the 5 Forks Sports Bar which is located right next to the restaurant.

Situated on 202 1/2 Red River Rd, Tomlin is a hidden gem not known to many. The cozy interiors are sure to keep you glued to your seats at this beautiful restaurant. With a seasonal menu that changes every so often, the Linguine is undoubtedly the best dish at the Tomlin.

For students who are feeling a bit more adventurous and wish to explore different types of cuisine, Monsoon Thunder Bay is a stellar Indian restaurant that serves flavourful dishes. Located on 588 Arthur St, this Indian joint is best known for its infamous Butter Chicken and Naan. The Mango Lassi is also worth a try!

If Indian food is a bit too spicy for you, the Golden Wok is a Vietnamese restaurant that boasts itself to be the home of the best noodle bowl in Thunder Bay. We’ll let you be the judge of that, but the Pho served there is truly to die for!
