2016 has been quite a year! As Thunder Bay’s only Campus & Community radio station, LU Radio, aka CILU 102.7, we strive to provide a unique, locally inspired, and homegrown music community for students and residents alike. This year LU Radio is making a big push to bring more students into the booth, with our Coffee Break drop in sessions that ran from September to November, we were able to meet new and excited students who want to get involved with LU Radio.
In case you didn’t know, LU Radio is entirely based on volunteer support (bar our station manager & team), and we have been that way for over 10 years. You’ll see us out at campus events, such as Club Days, Festivus, and lots of other campus days and celebrations. Occasionally, we throw our own parties, such as The Wav, a multi-venue pub-crawl with endless live entertainment courtesy of Thunder Bay’s best musicians and performers. This year was a HUGE success – thank you to all who came out and enjoyed the night! As a campus station, we rely on fundraising to keep our lights on and the airwaves open, events like The Wav and The FunDrive, a weeklong event that culminates with a delicious dinner and live entertainment (this year is going to be bigger then ever, stay tuned!), are how we do that.
Keep an eye out for LU Radio events, like the UV Paint Party we held this November at The Outpost. Local DJs UGotItBuddy, Pat Jones, and Svvecoon threw down some amazing sets, with the best dance and electronic music you’ll find on campus! We’ll be back at the Outpost this January with some frosty fun to kick off the winter term. Check out CILU 102.7 FM on Facebook to catch that announcement later this month!
As always, if you want to get involved with LU Radio, whether it be volunteering at events, hosting your own show, or showcasing your band’s latest EP, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know you want to be a part of the LU Radio family! For now, tune in and discover your favourite new show. From Thunder Geeks to Lipstick & Leather, Audio Vomit to Jens Bent, there’s something for everyone at LU Radio. Hop to www.luradio.ca for a full schedule of shows and programmers that will surely have your toes tapping all the way to April. That’s all for now, and remember, #SUPPORTYOURLOCALSTATION.
