It’s no secret that University can be expensive. If you’re looking for something to do after class, there are many recreational activities you can participate in without breaking the bank, especially if your budget is a little tight. So, whether you feel like going out and getting some exercise, or taking it easy, here are some fun things you can do for cheap.

Thunder Bay has bike paths all around town. Whether you want to bike, walk, or run, they are a good choice for getting some exercise and seeing the town. The bike paths are well maintained and are a great way to spend a summer or a fall day.

Like sports and have friends who do too? Why not have a few games of basketball or football at one of the city’s many parks? Basketball hoops can be found across town and sports like soccer and football just require an open space to play.

Lakehead University has a lot of talented sports teams that you can watch compete for a pretty low cost. Go see a game or event and show some support for our Thunderwolves.

Bored after class? Interested in art or history? Why not check out the Thunder Bay Museum or Art Gallery. Both offer interesting exhibits for a low entry fee. The Art Gallery offers beautiful art from local artists as well as numerous special events. The museum offers a look into the history of Thunder Bay, from before its foundation, to modern times, using a plethora of neat displays and interactive sets.

Thunder Bay’s marina, located near downtown Port Arthur, is a very nice place to go for a stroll. It’s one of the best places to see  Thunder Bay’s signature landmark, the Sleeping Giant. The marina has great walkways and paved paths to make the navigational experience simple and enjoyable. There are multiple picnic areas, plenty of open space, and a skate park. The city also holds events at the marina quite often, so check out what they’ve got planned as well!

If you are feeling lazy and don’t want to go out for the night, there are still some fun things you can do at home. Sometimes just staying in for the night and reading a book is a great way to spend some time. You can rent books from any library in town for almost free. All you need is a library card. You could also throw a movie night with some friends. Have everyone bring some food or snacks and you’ve got a potluck as well.

So, when you are looking for some frugal fun, keep these ideas in mind. Whether you want to go out and see the town, play a few games of basketball, or bowl a few strikes, there are plenty of ways to have fun that are easy on your wallet.
