Along with many other wonderful organizations, Thunder Bay is home to the renowned Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, who are back and are ready to present students with another magical night of music. Coming to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium this December 16th is the TBSO’s Holiday Pops show.

Holiday Pops is a family friendly event featuring our beloved local orchestra, along with several other talented performance groups. The event is expected to run for two-and-a-half hours and is perfect for every member of your family, from babies to great-grandparents. The concert will include all your favourite holiday-themed sing-along songs (yes – the same ones you’ve been playing in the car since December 1st) as well as a selection of orchestral classics.

This is no ordinary orchestral concert, as it  will include contributions from various talented artist from outside of the TBSO. There will be performances from Dance Dynamics Studio, Thunder Bay’s children’s string ensemble, The Stringlings, local singer/songwriter Tiina Flank, and the St. Paul’s Bell Choir. Spoiler alert: the St. Paul’s Bell Choir will be performing Carol of the Bells. If all the other performers who are collaborating with the TBSO weren’t enough to convince you to attend, the opportunity to see a live performance of Carol of the Bells from a real bell choir is a must for checking an item off your bucket list.

Tickets for this must-see concert are available at the Community Auditorium every day during business hours leading up to the event. Alternatively, tickets can also be purchased online. The TBSO wants to create music that is accessible to all residents and offer a student rate for those attending college or university—just present your student card at time of purchase. They also have youth rates available for individuals who are under 30 and are recent graduates.

If you have an interest in orchestral music but have never attended a formal concert, this is a perfect opportunity to expose yourself to a different side of the Thunder Bay music scene. This concert is ideal for everyone, whether you’re a holiday music lover to first-time concert-goer.

This family-friendly concert also provides accessible seating for individuals with disabilities and the seating is assigned (so grab your tickets early to be sure to you get seats all together). Whether you’re a parent looking for a fun event to attend with your child, a devoted music concert attendee, or a just a student looking to get in the holiday spirit, this event is suitable for you. There are no dress codes, expectations, or judgements – just, “come as you are, come with bells on!”

The show starts promptly at 7pm and there is free parking on site, as well as several bus stops within walking distance. In addition to the show, there will be a post-concert reception where you can purchase the orchestra’s latest recordings. Come out and celebrate the end of the semester with the TBSO, while supporting many of our local artists.
