Take care of your reproductive health with the Student Health and Counselling Centre
By Brandy Bond, Staff Writer
The Student Health and Counselling Centre is a space on campus that provides many services and events to students which both assist and promote healthy living. Located in the former Prettie Residence building, and just a two-minute walk from various classes and other amenities on campus, students can access health care quickly and easily.
An integral part of our campus, the Student Health and Counselling Centre provides a wide range of medical services that many students might be unaware of. The Centre provides students with access to information from professionals regarding STIs (sexually transmitted infections), safe sex, and relationship health. The Student Health and Counselling Centre also provides many medical services to help combat issues involved with reproductive health, such as providing pap screenings, STI screenings, birth control and emergency contraception. Reproductive health is an important topic of discussion, especially for those living on their own for the first time. While the Centre has many services for students regarding reproductive health, they are also able to provide help for finding additional support.
In addition to support from medical professionals, the centre also provides free contraception such as condoms and dental dams, as well as a variety of educational pamphlets to further aid students in accessing information about their reproductive health.
For any students interested in getting more information concerning reproductive health, the Student Health and Counselling Centre is open Monday to Friday 8:45 a.m-4:15 p.m. and on Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Further information about the centre can also be accessed on the Lakehead University website.
