On January 27th, 2018, the Definitely Superior Art Gallery hosted their 10th annual DERELICTE wearable fashion show at Black Pirates Pub in downtown Port Arthur. In celebration of their decennial anniversary, the show featured a wide variety of attractions, with over 34 acts of wearable art, fashion, music, and more.

Definitely Superior has been invigorating the Superior North area with its cutting edge art and exhibits since 1988. Thirty years later, they still manage to keep in touch with the beating heart of the art community in the Thunder Bay region, and DERELICTE 10 is no exception. The annual DERELICTE event has historically drawn hundreds of people, and the 2017 event accommodated over 600 people who wanted to catch a glimpse of the glamour at this much anticipated event.

Attending this particular show provides a rather unique opportunity in Thunder Bay. In recent years there has been a rise in the popularity of local drag shows and similar events, but art in this form has remained largely untapped in the popular imagination of the people of Thunder Bay. DERELICTE 10, however, acts as a bold announcement that this type of creativity is present in our city and demands an outlet.

For those who are unfamiliar with or less interested in wearable art, the show had a host of other things to offer, including video mapping projections organized by Definitely Superior, as well as several live local bands and DJs to keep the good times rolling.

Many fashion shops, with significant presence in the local arts and culture scene, participated in this year’s event. The Loop, Creation Body Piercing, and Elfarrow Apparel were among those who contributed their work to the event.

As per Definitely Superior Gallery’s mission statement of, “fostering the creation of new and experimental works”, this year’s DERELICTE 10 proved to be one of the most intriguing and unique events of 2018 thus far! With local catering provided by The Sushi Bowl and Sweet Escape Cake Café & Bakery, it was truly a unique Thunder Bay experience. If you missed DERELICTE 10 this year, be sure to keep an eye on the Definitely Superior Gallery website for more information about their upcoming events and shows to make sure that you don’t miss out on the next one!
