The English Student Association is calling for submissions for their annual magazine, The Artery.
By Tim Smith, Copy Editor
The Artery is a creative writing/visual arts magazine published each year by the ESA. We accept anything from poetry to short stories, essays to tweets (or yaks), cover art to photography, and everything in between. To view or purchase previous editions, head to the English office (RB3029) or contact myself at firstname.lastname@example.org
When submitting your work, please send to the above email using a .docx or .pdf file, or .jpg for visual art, using your own Lakehead email WITHOUT YOUR NAME. This allows the editing team to view your work anonymously and without bias. The maximum length for poetry is 150 lines and 1500 words for prose. We accept work from students, alumni, and faculty both Thunder Bay and Orillia Campuses.
Deadline: February 19, 2016
The ESA is also looking for volunteers and students interested in participating in future events and being part of the executive team. The positions that will be available for next year are: President, Vice-President, Editor-in-Chief, and Events Coordinator. If you are an English major (under- or graduate) but not interested in these positions and would like to participate with the program outside of the classroom, contact me at the above email to discuss representing English students in department meetings.
The ESA is also hosting the annual Genderf@&$ed Open-Mic event at the Study on February 23 from 7-10 p.m. It’s $5 at the door which includes raffle tickets for the prizes we have featuring local artists and other fun stuff. Follow The Artery on Facebook for further updates!
Happy creating! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
