September 24- Let’s Talk About Good Sex! Pride Central and the Gender Issues Centre will be hosting this annual event in The Study tonight from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The event will consist of a relaxed, educational, engaging and personal collaborative discussion by the LUSU centres about healthy, good, fun sex, as well as about consent and communication in an environment that is sex-positive, gender inclusive, and welcoming of queer and feminist perspectives. All are welcome to attend this free event and light refreshments will be provided. Students with questions they would like to discuss can submit them by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or in person in the box at the Gender Issues Centre (SC0020).
September 24 – Sweat Lodge Ceremony All who are interested in attending this important cultural ceremony are invited to attend this evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Sweat Lodge site. Those planning to attend are encouraged to dress appropriately for the event: namely, shorts for the men and t-shirts and long skirts for the women. Offerings of tobacco to present to the Elder are available for pick-up at the Aboriginal Cultural Support Services office (RC0002). The event’s organizers remind women who are on their moon time that they must not participate in the sweat lodge ceremony or handle ceremonial items.
September 27 – “Port Arthur and Fort William: Canada’s Keys to the Great Lakes” This Saturday at 10:30 a.m., as part of Thunder Bay’s Culture Days 2014 events, the Thunder Bay Mary J. Black Library will be showing the first film ever produced in Thunder Bay. The 1913 flick is entitled “Port Arthur and Fort William: Canada’s Keys to the Great Lakes” and will be introduced by Lakehead University Chair of the Department of History Dr. Michel S. Beaulieu. The showing is free to attend and all are welcome. Be sure to stay tuned to the next issue of The Argus for more in-depth coverage of Culture Days 2014.
October 1 – Thunder Bay Law Application Information Session Thinking about attending law school in the fall? The Lakehead University Faculty of Law will be hosting an Applicant Information Session next Wednesday evening from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in PACI Room 1005. The information session will feature information about the application process as well as opportunities to meet with a current law student, a professor from the faculty, and the admissions officer. Future and current applicants are welcome to attend: no RSVP required.
October 6 – Application Deadline for 2015 Winter Exchange Students interested in participating in an exchange for the 2015 winter semester are reminded that the deadline for those applications is rapidly approaching.
