March 2-6 Aboriginal Awareness Week LUSU’s Aboriginal Awareness Centre, in partnership with the university’s office of Aboriginal Initiatives will be hosting various free events and workshops all week long to celebrate the culture of Aboriginal peoples, to explore the history of colonization, and to discuss the project of decolonization.
Today in The Study there will be a Residential School Information Session from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.; from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. will be a presentation by Deputy Grand Chief of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, Goyce Kakegamic; and this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. there will be the Northern Fire Fashion show, featuring clothes that incorporate elements of identity, reuse, and ethical manufacturing.
Tomorrow morning in The Study Quese IMC Aboriginal Hip Hop Artist and speaker will visit from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A presentation on restorative justice will take place between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. by NAN Legal. In the evening Aboriginal comedian Ryan McMahon will perform in UC1017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
On Friday McMahon will be hosting a workshop in the back room of The Study between 10:00 a.m. and noon. Aboriginal Awareness Week will conclude with a concert series at The Outpost, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The series will feature Quese IMC Hip Hop – Oklahoma, Sea Ballast and Nick Sherman, and McMahon will be the special guest MC.
March 5— Graduation Fair Lakehead Enrolment Services will be hosting a one-stop informational seminar on graduation for any and all interested students tomorrow in the Agora between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The event is free to attend and all students are invited to drop in to learn more about their next steps toward graduation, what they can expect on Convocation Day, how to manage finances in the future, and how to prepare for a career after university.
March 9 – Science and Environmental Studies Speaker Series Research scientist with the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis of Environment Canada, Dr. John Fyfe, will be visiting Lakehead University this Monday to deliver his presentation entitled “The Global Warming Hiatus: What’s Up With That?”. The presentation is free to attend and all are welcome: it will be taking place in AT1003 and begins at 7:30 p.m.
