Thrift Thrift Thrift!
If you're anything like me, you’re broke, in desperate need of new clothes, and always on the hunt for a good bargain. Finding the right clothes that fit you, at the right price is a difficult endeavor, especially in a small city such as Thunder Bay. However, that does not mean it’s impossible. A hidden gem in this tiny city are numerous thrift stores, a godsend for those who do not wish to spend a fortune on their wardrobe.
As people move away from the shackles of fast fashion and big brands, thrifting has become the new rage. You may recall venturing into a thrift store to pick up cheap furniture or maybe put together a unique Halloween costume, but what you don’t realize is that thrifting offers several benefits that go far beyond the occasional optimistic trips to the bins. Secondhand stores are a great place to find designer products for a fraction of the price. If clothes aren’t what you are looking for, they also sell furniture, housewares, and electronics! If you still aren’t convinced, thrift stores also play an important role in reducing our carbon footprint and sustaining our environment. The fact that most proceeds made by thrift shops goes to charity is just the cherry on top!
Thunder Bay is no stranger to thrift stores. The Salvation Army Thrift Shop, located on 870 Red River Rd, is a non-profit organization that is part of the national charitable organization, they offer pre-owned items to vulnerable sections of society and attempt to make a difference in the community through programs and services. Value Village is another thrift store chain that provides great quality, gently used clothing, accessories, and household goods. It can be found at 915 Memorial Ave, right next to another Salvation Army store. The next time you need a pair of jeans or perhaps a winter jacket, hit up a thrift store!
