Job Fair in Barrie

This Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Agilec will be hosting a job fair at the Peggy Hill Community Centre, formerly known as the Holly Rec Centre. The building is located at 171 Mapleton Avenue in Barrie and the event will take place from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Agilec itself is an Employment Ontario service provider that aims to aid job seekers in finding employment. Some of their work includes helping with resume writing, job search, and other employment goals such as upskilling and training for those who qualify. Tracy Hoskins, an employee of Agilec and host of the upcoming job fair, said this:

Part of my job as an Employer Liaison with Agilec is to look at the labour market and identify different local trends. Our community has a large gap in employment within the healthcare sector that expands additionally across Ontario. This job fair is being hosted with a focus on our local retirement homes and long-term care facilities to provide support in filling the gaps they have in staffing. This will be the first large, in-person job fair since Covid hit in 2020. Our goal is to provide a space for job seekers to get back in front of employers and allow them to highlight their skill sets while engaging with employers. We want to give job seekers the opportunity to show employers who the person behind the words on a resume is. When people show up to job fairs, it shows their motivation to find employment. It lets the employer know that they’re doing more than just clicking the “apply” button on a computer.

The job fair will also show special attention to the health care sector and is looking for employees of varying skill levels, anything from inexperienced companions to trained personal service workers. At present, there is a major need for anyone willing to work, especially with a growing elderly population. Frankly, there are a lot of pros to attending a job fair like this one:

  • Set yourself apart from countless faceless resumes

  • Show employers that you have the initiative to seek work

  • Give yourself the ability to best explore a wide array of options

  • Make connections to people that open opportunities

  • Create options for yourself instead of waiting for potential phone calls

If you’re interested, just stop in at the specified date and time; there’s no need to register! If you have any further questions about the job fair or about Aligec’s services, please feel free to contact Tracy Hoskins at thoskins@aligec.ca. Happy job hunting!
