Is this déja vu? Back in September 1991, Lakehead students were impatiently waiting for the opening of the new campus pub. Over thirty years later we’re preparing for its grand re-opening. Here’s everything you need to know about the return of The Outpost Campus Pub.
Back with a vengeance
The first day of the Fall 2022 semester marks the reopening of Lakehead University's beloved campus pub. For the first time in over two years, The Outpost will open its doors to the public. The pub will be operating at limited hours for the first week of school:
Tuesday, Sept 6th to Thursday, Sept 8th, 11 am to 7 pm.
Friday, Sept 9th doors open at 7 pm for the re-opening concert.
Regular hours of operation will begin Monday, September 12th, and are as follows:
Monday 11am-9pm
Tuesday 11am-2am
Wednesday 11am-9pm
Thursday 11am-2am
Friday 11am-2am
Currently, only the bar will be open, with the kitchen reopening in October. If you are still looking for a job on campus you can apply to The Outpost! They are hiring skilled bartenders, barbacks, and support staff.
Kick-off concert
To celebrate the long-anticipated return of The Outpost, LUSU is hosting a kick-off concert on September 9th featuring Canadian multi-platinum recording artist Fefe Dobson! The doors open to the event at 7 pm, with opening performances by Lockyer Boys at 8 pm and The Honest Heart Collective at 9 pm. Fefe will take the stage at 10 pm. For the grand opening of The Outpost in 1991, the kick-off concert featured The Tragically Hip, a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario.

What to expect
The Outpost’s Events Coordinator, Sara Nicastro, says they couldn’t be more excited to reopen after the pandemic has kept their doors closed since March 2020. Whether you’re a returning customer or visiting the campus pub for the first time, The Outpost has something for everyone.
“Students can expect a fun and laid-back atmosphere. Their favourite beers are back on tap and we got some fun new cocktails to come to try!” explains Nicastro.
She also shared that they are planning lots of new events for this upcoming semester:
“Some events will have to remain a surprise for now but we are very excited for the upcoming year. We will be doing some great concerts, collaborations with athletics, and introducing over 24 hours of happy hour a week!”
TGIT (Thank goodness it’s Tuesday)
It wouldn’t be The Outpost without Tankard Tuesdays! You heard that right, it’s back! Sarah confirmed that the famous Tuesday tradition will return:
“Spread the word! This is THE place to be on Tuesdays!”
