Introducing Lakehead’s Law and Politics club

This semester, there has been a rise in new clubs, one being the Lakehead Law and Politics (LLP) club. It is run by Tristan Bhola who is extremely passionate about his program and future career in law. Those who are seeking to enrich their university experience with further lifelong learning, I implore you to join. Thus, the following information on LLP can be found below.

What is your club about?

Our main goal is to foster interest, discussion, and debate in legal and political thought. We will also focus on students seeking to apply to law school with informational events. However, all students of all disciplines are encouraged to attend events to learn more about law and politics.

What events do you want to host?

LLP wants to organize debates/discussion events for students of all different perspectives to come together and discuss what is going on in law and politics locally, nationally, and internationally. We also would like to host guest speakers. We will be focusing our efforts on welcoming lawyers, judges, political figures, and academics to LU to speak about law and politics. Finally, we would love to collaborate with Lakehead Law School to welcome law students to talk to us about the process of getting into law school and how to strengthen our applications.

How can members benefit from the experiences gained from joining?

Members will be exposed to many different political perspectives and viewpoints from people of diverse backgrounds. The opportunity to debate and discuss will also allow students to work on their ability to speak in public and allow them to express their viewpoints in a safe and accepting environment. The opportunity to meet, listen to, and interact with local figures in law and politics may also spark curiosity in students. Finally, the ability to talk to law school students will help any student looking to apply to law school as they will have someone who has gone through the process to gain information from.
