Still Thinking About that New Year's Resolution?

Instead of writing about how “important” New Year's resolutions can be for people to feel accomplished, I decided to collect the voices of Lakehead students regarding their New Year's Resolutions… How are they going? Have the resolutions evolved? Changed? Kept consistent? Or have the resolutions completely gone awry?

Let’s hear from our classmates:

My question:

“What was your New Year's resolution, and how is it going?”

  1. I am still sticking to mine. It was to drink more water. I drink 1 of those big Stanley bottles per day. The resolution has evolved into me trying to move my body more; 30 minutes a day of exercise. It makes me feel a lot better physically and mentally!” - Year 2, Teacher’s College

  2. I wanted to start going to the gym twice a week. I have a pretty busy schedule, so I thought it would be manageable. I will increase the amount of time, hopefully, when I feel more comfortable with my schedule.” - Year 2, English

  3. I was going to try and meal plan each week and so far I have been doing it, however, not as much as I was hoping.” - Year 3, Interdisciplinary Studies/Concurrent Education

  4. “Personally, I’ve been trying to find a bit more balance this year and giving myself grace when I forget things.” - Year 4, Honours Bachelor of Commerce

  5. “I didn’t make one this year intentionally. I find the pressure of them leaves me disappointed when I fail. Yet this year I’ve been the most successful at sticking to some positive healthy choices even though it wasn’t a goal or plan.” - Year 2, Teacher’s College

  6. Save money. I need to be mindful of where my money is going. So far, I have created monthly budgets for myself and if I continue to stick to them, I will be able to have enough money to take myself on a nice trip.” - Year 4, Social Work

  7. I have never made a New Year’s Resolution. I still feel that I have accomplished a lot.” - Year 1, Teacher’s College

As we can see, there are multiple different perspectives about New Year Resolutions. I think we can all agree that New Years isn’t the only opportunity for us to engage in goal setting, but in the end, all we can do is make decisions that are best for us!
