LUSU Elections are Approaching!

Nominations for the LUSU general elections were open between February 6th-17th, and  executive and board nominees began their campaigns February 20th. Whether you self-nominated or nominated someone else, it is hoped that your decision was made with the success of the upcoming school year in mind. If you are someone that did not know this was happening, then hopefully, you are more enticed to become involved in creating the new LUSU team by voting!

As voters, it is our responsibility to choose from the candidates presented who we think will be the best suit for each position. You can learn more about candidates running for the 2023-24 General Election at lusu.ca!

Voting will be held online, with polls opening March 14th at 8:00AM and closing March 21st at 11:59PM.

The positions that will be voted on are: President, VP Finance, VP Advocacy, VP Orillia, and the Board of Directors, where there are two separate positions, one for Thunder Bay and one for Orillia. Elected individuals will hold their positions from May 1st 2023 until April 30th 2024.

An all-candidates election debate will occur on March 8th, and candidates will continue campaigning until March 21st. There is a significant amount of time for students to get to know the values and goals of each candidate.

Remember, change starts with us, the voters. Think about which candidates’ values align with yours, and decide what is best for you and whose representation would benefit the Lakehead community.

Try to find time to show your support by keeping in the election loop, even if it is just through the Argus articles that will be released throughout the next upcoming weeks 😉.

The Argus wishes all of the candidates the best of luck with their upcoming campaigns and invites you to share any questions you may have in the comments section.
