Staying Fashionable In Unconventional Weather

Unfortunately for me, I fall into the “if I don’t look my best, I don’t feel my best,” category. Growing up in the island of sun and soca music, all we wore were crop tops and shorts. I never experimented with my style because the weather never changed. Here, I can safely say I have a bag to match every coat. I absolutely adore European street fashion and it stands out against Thunder Bay’s typical “go to” leggings and a hoodie.

First things first, as you all know, Thunder Bay’s weather is unpredictable. There can be sunny days and then hail in a matter of seconds, trust me, I’ve been there! Make sure you have lined thermals and waterproof boots for worst case scenarios. I noticed that people tend to gravitate to black and neutrals here.  Personally, I love mixing prints with my neutrals and I can never leave the house without a hair accessory!

Some European fashion basics are:

  1. Long Neutral Coloured Coats

Try a beanie or headband together with a clutch or small purse to tie the look together!

 2. White or Black Shirt/ Turtlenecks

You can layer different tops and sweaters on top of them. Pair with black jeans and you’ve got a look!

3. Leather and Prints

4. Black Heeled Boots & Long Blazers

The secret to a statement piece is LAYERING. I reuse my black turtleneck and make it look like a new outfit each time. Pinterest is clearly my best friend. Some things you can try to spice up your look is to tie your scarves differently and wear chunky jewelry along with belts!

Unfortunately, fast fashion has become a trend in recent years and so in order to avoid the ramifications of this, I recommend checking out Thrift, Thrift, Thrift by Armaan to find some new pieces for your wardrobe that are fashionable and eco-friendly!
