The Outpost’s New Menu is an International Trip for your Taste Buds

Tired of boring food on campus? We have good news for you. The Outpost kitchen has officially reopened and is serving up delicious international eats.

The Outpost Kitchen is open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 8 pm. They will also be open for late-night snacks on Pub night and Tankard Tuesdays.

Graham Davis, a Thunder Bay award-winning chef and the new head chef of the Outpost, explains his vision for the Outpost’s International Street Food menu.

“The goal was not your standard bar food. [...] International street food is our menu concept, actually. So things you'll find around the world on the street, basically. Something fast, fun and trendy. Comfort food for those students that are here from out of town and something that's a little bit different and fun for our domestic audience as well.”

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Graham attended Confederation College and has worked at a variety of hotels, restaurants and kitchens. He won top chef in 2014.

Argus Editor-in-chief Nicole and Staff Writer Armaan were fortunate enough to get an exclusive taste-testing of some of the most popular dishes.

Here’s what we tried:

Vada Pav

Chickpea potato dumplings served on slider buns with a dry garlic chutney.

The Vada Pav was an instant favourite. This dish is truly a bouquet of flavours; perfect for sharing with friends or having all to yourself. (We won’t judge you either way).

Egyptian Barley Salad

Barley base, pomegranate green chutney, tamarind chutney, some toasted almonds, scallions, and feta cheese

This is not your typical salad. The Egyptian barley salad is a sweet combination of flavours that makes you forget you’re eating a salad. It’s fun, refreshing and filling.

Butter Chicken / Paneer on Rice (Halal & Gluten Free)

Traditional butter chicken on basmati rice topped with raita and served with warm naan.

This dish was very tasty, and the portion was quite generous. This is a great dinner-sized meal to grab before heading to an evening class. Or whenever. You do you.

The West Coast Burger

House-made patty topped with guacamole, lettuce, tomato garlic aioli & mango salsa. (Substitute Malibu Veggie burger).

Attention burger lovers, the West Coast Burger is a must-try! Served with a generous helping of fries, this Californian twist on a classic burger delivers an unexpectedly delectable combo of flavours. (The mango salsa is truly the piece de resistance).

The International Street Food Menu has something for everyone! All of the meat dishes (with the exception of the Gyro meat) are Halal. The menu also includes a variety of vegetarian and vegan options.

We know what you’re thinking– I’m a broke student. Fear not, you don’t need to break the bank to eat well. The Outpost menu includes generously portioned dishes at affordable prices. Check out the daytime and late-night menus below:
