Does Lakehead University Have a Ghost Problem?

For years, I have heard tales of students seeing a figure dressed in period clothing on campus, among other spooky stories. At first glance, these stories are written off as eye witness accounts of debauchees leaving The Outpost, mistaking someone walking in the distance as some type of apparition. But, hearing these types of stories one too many times I decided to put on my investigation cap and look into these spooky occurrences, just in time for October.

The first account comes from a friend of mine (who requested to remain anonymous) living in the dorms of Lakehead.

“I got home one night, and I heard loud footsteps upstairs, then when I went upstairs I realized no one else was home”.

It also seems as if this is not a unique occurrence either. Last year, there was a post on the website Reddit where a poster detailed a very similar occurrence, hearing the sound of steps throughout the dorms, very curious. It seems all these stories are the scariest thing to happen around Lakehead since the $15 Outpost Halloween party tickets. So out of curiosity, I started actively asking people about supposed apparitions to try and shed some light on this most dastardly of mysteries. That was when student Abby Filipetti told me her story:

“I was sitting in class one evening, and it was a 6:30 class in February so it was already dark out, and I remember looking out the window and seeing a woman dressed in old looking clothes walking around the ATAC building parking lot. She wasn't wearing a jacket or anything in February, so it stuck out in my mind”.

When I looked into possible historical explanations with regards to Lakehead University and eighteenth century ghost like phenomena, I found nothing. So really we have no historical records to try and help us piece together these enigmatic tales, but there is something to be said about just how consistent the tales are, usually tales of stopping sounds in the dorms or a lady dressed in gray clothes prancing about the campus. So this year when you leave The Outpost Halloween party keep your eyes and ears open, as you never know when you'll see something you cannot explain.
