International Women’s Day Events in Thunder Bay

International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8th, honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It’s a day not only for celebration but also for raising awareness about the ongoing struggles for gender equality and women’s rights. This day serves as a call to action for continued progress toward justice and equality for women around the world.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we’ve highlighted events happening both on-campus and off-campus where you can participate, learn, and show support.

On campus

International Student Centre Event

The International Student Centre is hosting a vibrant celebration to honor women’s achievements and advocate for equality. Join them for an afternoon filled with fun activities, including photo opportunities, social media engagement, crafts, button-making, and plenty of hot chocolate and popcorn.

“Sip Like a Celeb” at The Study

Join The Study in their special initiative, 'Sip Like a Celeb,' a unique drink menu celebrating International Women’s Day. A portion of each sale from their curated selection of drinks will be donated to @lusu.pridecentral and @gec_lusu.

Women in Sport Association Salsa Dance Class

Celebrate International Women's Day with a salsa dance class hosted by the Women in Sport Association at Lakehead. Spots are limited, so make sure to register early!

Picking Up the Pieces: Community Art Workshop

Join the Loud Women Collective for a community art workshop titled "Picking Up the Pieces," focused on raising awareness about violence against women. Led by Anna from Teatime Mosaics, with support from Dorset Pier Mental Health, participants will work together to create a powerful mosaic that represents resilience, love, and unity.

Organized by Norwest Community Health Centres, this Pop-Up Clinic offers a range of services and activities for women and non-binary individuals, providing essential support in a welcoming space.
