Food and Nutrition Month at Lakehead
March 6th: Take & Make Meal Kit
On Thursday, March 6th, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Student Health and Wellness will be in the RC lobby with free Take & Make Meal Kits so you can cook up a hearty Sweet Potato Black Bean Chili at Home! Supplies are limited, so students are encouraged to come early!
March 7th: Have a Soup-er Day!
Join Student Health and Wellness at Heritage Place between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm on March 7th to receive free soup. In addition to that, students also have the chance to participate in Food Trivia, learn low-cost recipes, and cost-saving tips on groceries! March 11th to 25th: Lakehead Fresh Market
The Lakehead Fresh Market will be open on March 11th and March 25th between the times of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. The market aims to provide students with accessible and affordable produce. Please note that only debit and credit are accepted, and bring your own bag! Moreover, any student experiencing food insecurity may stop by the LUSU Food Resources Centre in room UC 2014b to equip a five dollar coupon. Please note that these coupons will only be available between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm on Monday the 10th. For more information, contact FRC@lusu.ca.
March 11th: Lunch & Learn: Wild Rice Recipes
On Tuesday, March 11th, between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm, students are invited to join the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and Student Health and Wellness to learn about Wild Rice while enjoying some wild rice and chicken soup for lunch. This event will be held in Maawnjigamig (OR 1013).
March 17th: Culinary Connections: Exploring Diversity Through Food
Running Monday, March 17th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Alumni Commons, students will have the chance to sample ingredients from different cultures and learn how to properly prepare them. Moreover, information will be provided on where the ingredients can be bought.
March 27th: Sandwich Social
On Thursday, March 27th, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, the Food Resource Centre and Student Health and Wellness will be holding a free lunch in the CASES Lounge. All attendees will be entered into a draw to win a fifty dollar gift card. Please note that this space is limited, so registration will be required.
March 27th: Build-A-Bowl
On Thursday, March 27th, between 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm, Student Health and Wellness will be holding a Nutritional lunch in room OA 2010. Students will have the opportunity to build their own power bowls as they learn more about healthy eating strategies while accommodating limited time and budgets.
